BANJUL SUMMIT LOGO

The Vision of the African Union and the Mission of the African Union Commission

The 2004-2007 Strategic Framework of the African Union Commission

The Action Plans of the various Departments of the Commission

The AU Banjul Summit Logo is the product of the combined talent of two young Gambian artists Momodou Ceesay and Njogou Touray and a graphic art designer Lamin Marenah. Through their combined skills these three talented Gambians produced the Logo which practically demonstrates the theme of the AU Banjul Summit, “integration and harmonization”, of Africans working together to produce positive results for Africa and her Peoples.

The entire Logo is based on a circular design based on the mathematical equation of the root of unity “cyclotomic equation”.

The Logo depicts in abstract form three figures – black, grey and white – representing the diversity of the African people. The figures are holding hands in a show of unity and solidarity. This diversity of the African people can be a source of strength if we decide to come together and find solutions to our problems. The map of the Continent is set in the centre of the Logo as the focal point for the discussions.

The rays of the sun which form the background of the Continent illustrate hope and a brighter future for Africa which can be attained through unity and integration. The dominating green colour in the interior represents the fertility of our land and the riches it holds.

Finally, on the West coast of the Continent is a small thin white line, representing The Gambia, host nation of the 7th Summit of the African Union.
